Where We Stand…

Wilton has earned a well-deserved reputation for superb schools.

We Wilton Democrats support local control of our schools; investing in teachers, curriculums and activities that prepare children for their future; keeping students and personnel safe; maintaining our schools in good condition; and engaging students’ parents and guardians.

Wilton needs appealing housing that young adults, families, singles, and our workforce can afford, as well as elder-friendly housing for our seniors who want to downsize.

We Wilton Democrats support civic, business, and community members, along with innovative specialists, working together to help shape Wilton’s 2029 Plan of Conservation and Development so Wilton retains what keeps it special while accommodating strategic growth.

Town decisions about development, infrastructure, and open space must consider impacts on our environment.

We Wilton Democrats are committed to protecting and preserving our environment with thoughtful, research-based planning and development requirements, along with incentives to protect our environment and quality of life.

The vast majority of Americans support the basic principles of Roe vs. Wade, and embrace the separation of church and state.

With the Dobbs decision that overturned Roe, and actions of multiple states that criminalize reproductive choices, we Wilton Democrats vow to defend a woman’s right to make her own reproductive decisions. Fortunately, Connecticut’s Democratic-majority legislators consistently vote to protect these rights.

All are welcome in Wilton, and deserve equal dignity, opportunity and protection under the law, no matter race, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity, disability, age, national origin, or political affiliation.

Discrimination, racism and hatred are wrong, and must be opposed in our government, schools, workplaces, and community. A just society is one where everyone can live, study, work, worship, play, and participate fully and safely, free from prejudice, harm and systemic barriers.

We Wilton Democrats are committed to standing up for equality, and protecting the rights and liberties of all.

While we Wilton Democrats support the right of individuals to own guns, we believe background checks are essential. In addition, we support red flag laws, higher minimum age for purchase, measures to prevent ghost guns, and limits on the number of guns purchased at one time.

We support greater mental health resources for everyone, but decry the use of the mental health issue as disingenuous when raised by the NRA and Republican politicians following violent tragedies.

We support reasonable gun-safety measures for the protection of the general public and law enforcement.
