Any registered Connecticut voter is now eligible to vote by absentee ballot – you no longer need an excuse to vote this way.

Absentee ballot applications

Only registered Democrats and Republicans may receive an absebtee ballot application. Unaffiliated voters may not vote in a Primary. IF YOU ARE NOT REGISTERED to vote or need to change or update your registration, you can do so online: (https://voterregistration.ct.gov/OLVR/welcome.do) or with the Wilton Registrars at Town Hall. If you miss the deadline to register (check the current deadline for mailing or registering in person here) you can come to Town Hall on Election Day and register at what is called Election Day Registration.

Returning your application

The easiest and most reliable way to return your absentee ballot application is to use the ballot drop box near the vestibule behind Town Hall (240 Danbury Road).

Turn in your application as soon as possible, especially if you plan to mail it instead of using the ballot drop box.

If you have applied online for a ballot but have not received it, you can get another ballot application from the Town Clerk. You must tell the Clerk you have applied online and sign the relevant documentation. Another ballot application will be issued, which you can complete and  turn in at the same time.

Returning your absentee ballot

The easiest and most reliable way to be sure your ballot arrives in time is to use the secure ballot drop box located near the vestibule behind Town Hall (240 Danbury Road).

Due to recent attempts to block the receipt of mail-in ballots, if at all possible please return your ballot by drop box to ensure the town clerk receives your ballot.

If you do need to mail your ballot, please mail your ballot ASAP.

If you have an illness or disability, certain others may return your absentee ballot for you: an immediate family member who lives with the voter (such as a spouse, child, parent, or sibling); a designee caring for a voter with an illness or disability—including, but not limited to, a doctor or nurse—can return an absentee ballot; a Wilton police officer, Registrar of Voters, Deputy Registrar of Voters, or Assistant Registrar of Voters.

You can check that your absentee ballot has been received with the voter registration lookup tool.  If you have returned your ballot but it is not listed as received: Absentee ballots are logged first by the Town Clerk and the look-up tool may not have been updated yet. If you are concerned about whether your ballot has been received, call the Democratic Registrar Karen Birck directly at 203-563-0012.

Additional information:

• Voted absentee ballots (AB) cannot be accepted at the polls. ABs are tabulated at Town Hall – polling place tabulators cannot read absentee ballots.

• If you requested an AB but didn’t use it, you can vote at the polls. Check your polling place here: https://portaldir.ct.gov/sots/LookUp.aspx.

• At the polls, voters who have voted AB will be indicated on the voter rolls so people cannot vote twice. 

• If you have voted AB but want to go to polls, you must withdraw your ballot at the Town Clerks office by 5pm [2026 date TBD]

• ABs deposited in the drop box or received by mail on election day will not be counted until after the close of polls on election day (so please deposit asap).
