Eleven WDTC delegates attended the 2018 Congressional Convention where, by acclaim, we endorsed incumbent Jim Himes as the Democratic Congressional nominee for the 4th District. In his acceptance speech, Himes urged that “we model the world we want”, going on to say the “idea of America is at risk” and that “at the heart of America is the idea that we are at our best when we come together.”
Saying that the world is watching to see how we respond to this moment in our political history, he reminded us how urgently we need to step up and make sure good people are elected to Congress and to our state offices. He reminded us of the phrase in the Constitution “…the Constitution which we now present is the result of a spirit of amity, and of that mutual deference and concession, which the peculiarity of our political situation rendered indispensable.” , saying how vital it is that our legislators collaborate to serve all US citizens.
