Connecticut Bail Fund

I’m spending a lot of time listening this week. I represent about 100,000 people, but less than 2% of my constituents are Black. At demonstrations across this district, I’ve heard just how much work lies ahead for all of us—especially those of us who are in positions of political power. Racial subjugation, segregation, and violence are still with us, in forms both old and new; we as a country have never fully reckoned with our original sins. In suburbs like the ones I represent, we need to work harder to fight racism and learn to be actively anti-racist in our daily lives.

As a first step, if you're interested in helping monetarily, I hope you’ll consider donating to the Connecticut Bail Fund. This is an organization that helps meets the bail obligations of individuals statewide who lack the funds to secure their freedom. Over-policing in black communities causes undue financial as well as physical and emotional harm—an arrestee may not be physically injured, but their pre-trial incarceration means that their family could go weeks or months without income. Your donation will ensure no one remains behind bars simply because of their financial circumstances.
